LabHand

Robotic handling for laboratory workflows

LabHand is a robotic gripper for laboratory environments — handling plates, lids, and containers in automated workflows.

It mounts via a 62 mm ISO flange and is compatible with a wide range of collaborative and industrial robots, including Universal Robots UR3e, UR5e, and UR10e, and the ABB GoFa 1500.

Two control modes are supported: I/O-based operation for robots without serial control, and RS485 for fully programmable grip parameters. Control is also available over SSH, enabling direct integration into Python-based automation environments.

The gripper handles labware in both landscape and portrait orientation. Its slim finger profile enables reliable gripping in constrained situations — including lid handling and stacked plate access.

New Pre-order

Labhand4 - One platform.
Reconfigurable for your workflow.

LabHand4 is a lab gripper built for automated laboratory environments. Its tool-based architecture allows the system to be reconfigured between process steps.

Designed for environments where one robotic cell must support evolving tasks without requiring a complete system redesign.

FullRange Pipette

Multi-volume liquid handling in a single instrument

The FullRange Pipette is designed to cover the full pipetting volume range within a single instrument — eliminating the need to switch between pipettors across process steps.

Currently in development. If your process requires handling a wide range of volumes on a single platform, we'd like to hear about your requirements.

Service

Rental Systems

Complete automation — deployed as a service

For biological labs that need reliable automation without committing to permanent infrastructure — we provide complete robotic systems as a rental service, deployed directly into your laboratory.

At the core is a robotic arm for microtiter plate handling — moving, processing, and coordinating plates across the workflow. Standard tools are integrated around it: liquid handling, plate labeling, delidding, shaking, storage access, and sample transfer.

Where your workflow requires specialty devices — readers, dispensers, or analytical instruments — we integrate those too. Contact us to discuss what is feasible.

No capital investment, no lengthy procurement — operational from day one.

Process & Automation Engineering

From process analysis to working laboratory systems

We design and implement laboratory systems — from process analysis through to fully operational setups. This covers fully automated workflows as well as hybrid environments where automation and scientific IT augment existing manual processes.

Our work typically begins where off-the-shelf solutions reach their limits: compound management, liquid handling across multiple steps, heterogeneous device integration, and data infrastructure.

We build implementations tailored to actual process requirements — combining robotics, laboratory instruments, and scientific IT into coherent, working environments rather than applying predefined configurations.

Our work includes:

  • Compound management, including labeling, tracking, and storage integration
  • Redesigning manual processes for reliable automation
  • Coordination of liquid handling across multiple process steps
  • Scientific IT: LIMS connectivity, data workflows, and instrument interfaces
  • Connecting heterogeneous devices into unified, controllable systems
Direction

Towards autonomous laboratory workflows

Laboratory workflows are moving beyond step-by-step automation toward systems that can adapt and continue without manual intervention. 8-BOT contributes to this direction through tight integration of robotics, instruments, and data — building systems that handle process variation rather than requiring it to be eliminated upfront.

Custom development

Custom hardware

Where standard instruments do not fit the process, we develop project-specific hardware. Past work includes incubator and cold storage units designed to meet particular workflow, footprint, and integration requirements that commercial products could not satisfy.
